Carol service in the garden of rememberance 2005 was a rushed affair. The Chapter having only just established managed to get a few brass instrumentalists at the last minute. They merrily played a variety of carols while those attending sang their hearts out. It was hampered by a serious accident on the motorway near to our headquarters causing diversions around the County meaning people were late or gave up due to Christmas shopping traffic. Regardless we managed to raise £122 for Cancer research
The Carol service in 2006 was hampered by freezing fog but it didn't stop the West Midlands Police Band from arriving, about twenty of them including a piper! They played a medley of carols before playing traditional and requested ones. Barney Barnes the conductor kept us amused during the evening and the piper droned away on the bagpipes to give the puffed out band a breather. All in all they were there for two hours and blew their captive audience away, so much so they are coming back next year to do the same again. Another £100 was raised for the Leicester Mercury Menphys appeal on top of other funds Constabulary members had raised. At one point the Dep, Gunner Tommo and the QM Al got up for solo and duet parts for "We Three Kings", followed by the Calypso girls.......
